January New Years goals? Those don’t stick. Ask any credible source.
But a burst of motivation to accomplish some goals in, say, July, usually does. At least for me. Hence the Januly Goals concept.
It is near the middle of June, which is essentially July. And wouldn’t you know it, I feel that it is time to start actually working on some hobby goals!
So here we go.
My New Year’s Resolutions
(that I never wrote about:)
- Do another 5k. July running is just no fun, though. This goal might need to be modified.
- Finish those socks! Yes, those ones. I am stalling.
- Complete my current piano lesson book.
All lovely, attainable things.
But I aspire to more, despite being unable, thus far, to finish the original 3 goals.
Bonus missions:
- Sew a whole new wardrobe, which may be a bit of a steep goal considering I have not sewn clothing before. At all. Though, I have sewn curtains, and a very nice Happy Birthday banner.
- Knit multiple new sweaters. The key word here is multiple. Because, one half finished yarn project isn’t enough for me. And because we all know I feel compelled to knit exclusively during hot months.
- I would also like to be really good at playing holiday christmas tunes on the piano before the festive season.
And of course I took on a massive and time consuming side quest this year: plants. New indoor plants. New outdoor plants.
All. The. Plants.

I also joined my neighborhood community garden, where I am attempting to grow produce I have never even imagined possible. So in short, lots of plant maintenance this year.
In addition to standard life things and tasks and obligations, I’ve really loaded up my plate at this life buffet.
How will I manage my Januly Goals?
I have literally one idea on how to stay focused on my Januly goals:
No Technology Distractions
The plan is to turn off the tech during any free time and hobby time, and just see how far that gets me. Is music allowed? That is a strong maybe.
That’s it. Pretty straightforward. No other rules exist.
My idea of a timeline for my No Technology Distractions concept is 1 month, starting today.
Who said you have to start a month-long challenge at the beginning of the month?! And, really, who said you have to do your New Year’s resolutions in January?
Not me.
See you in a month!
